Is there a theme here - eg: is this a thought provking one, a humerous poem, a sorrowful poem?

Suggestion so far:

Think of things that the word autumn conjures up - and then play around a bit: Also depends if you want a "rhyming poem" and if the poem is "easy going / deep"

leaves (golden/red/rust) "ochre branches" sort of descriptions
summers distant memory
winters slender fingers
nights drawing in, shadows dancing near
gossamer sheets of gold and red (yup, leaves again)
more sombre.... nests now barren, their builders gone
naked limbs, whipped by wind (NOT leaves this time - branches)

Depends on how waffly and flowery you want it really :)

You could write about the changing leaves or about one of the holidays. Maybe a favorite autumn memory of yours. Sorry, but that's all I got. Good luck.
