4 to the 1/2 power X 4 to the 1/2 power = 4 to the power of 1 which = 4

4^-1/2 = 1/2 (reciprocal of the square root of 4)
4^1/2 = 2 (square root of 4)

1/2 times 2 = 1

4 to the power of -0.5 = 1/(sqrt of 4) = 1/2
4 to the power of 0.5 = sqrt of 4 = 2
