My friend is a dancer and considers it a sport. I do cross country, and don't believe dance is a sport. Every other sport has a common ground where you are doing the exact same thing with skill. It's easy to judge who wins a game in all sports. But in dance there are different routines, therefore you cannot exactly judge equally because you are not seeing all teams try to perform the same routine. I consider it more of an art/entertainment. Is it actually considered a sport officially? Does anyone agree with me?

No. It is competitive but it is not a sport. Many professional competitions are held all over the world but it is not a sport competition.

There is always a debate over it. First and foremost, dance is art. Maybe your friend is at a stage when he/she is developing the technique. This is when people tend to insist that it is a sport. Once he/she is past that stage, he/she will hopefully reclaim the artistic aspect of it.

Dancesport is officially recognized as a sport by Olympic Committee. There are competitions. In short, it is very much like ice skating which is recognized as a sport for a long time.

I agree with you. I think it's more of a recreational activity. I could never imagine it being held at a real Summer Olympics.
