you find a persons true colors when they are challenged
what if is still there even in debate on issues. things may change when reality hits.
politics and religion do show a persons core beliefs about most things. that's true. and most profess to things they don't actually do.
many talk about things they'd like to do or how they'd prefer to see themselves. not always realistic. how many do you know who actually helped someone though a crisis or who did any long term volunteer work fro instance..
and i'm not talking about the required easy fun time to get to the debutante ball..
even many churches stop short at writing a check. the easy work.
true colors show through when things are not so easy.
get sick, get disabled, get poor, get homeless then you'll see what your friends are made of and if your bloodline is thicker or thinnner than water.

You can debate a person and all you'll find out is that he might be intelligent enough to speak well for himself, or that he took debate in college!
Threaten there kids, home life or the thing that gives the person a reason for living and the very next word you here will be pretty close, to the truth!

Well I agree to a certain extent about debating. However, each topic can bring out a whole different side to a person. So true colors are hard to find just through this alone. I believe stress shows quite a bit of who we are and how we were brought up to handle it.

Debate is a GAME. My Mother told me NEVER to argue about politics or religion! Nothing to be gained.
One's true colors show when one is under pressure, or when one's back is against the wall.
No place to go, and all out of options.

Yes. Politics and religion is a good one! That's true because you start to touch on that person's core belief systems and how they defend it or how self righteous they are or whatever come through.
I would also say in critical situations that put
their moral impulses and courage and strength to the test.

Thomas Jefferson was a good debater unfortunately he also said blacks and other minorities are inferior/weaker, he was also against race mixing but that clashed with his home life and his relationship with Sally Hemings that resulted in several children.

i sort of agree with what u said. i think it's mostly when we REALLY get heated about a discussion that we feel strongly on and we want to show our opinion, and we do so in a heated argument or something, and our true colors show. but think about it, it's not just in politics and religion, it can be in a friendship. your friend acts perfect until one day they can't hold it back anymore, and then they snap and their true colors show and we see wat they're really like. so a lot of different things, and really we may never know them all. sometimes it's a mystery what makes us act the way we do when showing our true colors.

Times of anger, conflict, adversity, failure, or fear.... Its easy to appear to be a great person when life's going your way. But throw a few obstacles in the way,.... no matter how big,... and watch the selfishness and hypocrisy fly....regardless who gets hurt in the process.

I definetly agree with that! Stress is also a big indicator! How they respond to it, how they deal with it, and how they resolve it as well!
You can also tell how a person is when they are around their family as well.
