Being a 5th generation Californian now residing in Texas...well what can I say. I miss it! Yes cost of living is a bit higher in CA and most of us are a little nutty (some of us fruits as well), but if you want something you can find it or do it there! From surfing to skiing and the cuisine is without compare! You can go to one of the best zoos in the world or can go to a casino and do some gambling. You can't beat the variety of scenery from the jagged cliffs to the mountains to the sandy beaches. I remember camping in the redwoods when I was a child. They have hurricanes and tornadoes here! Tornadoes scare the hell out of me! The mid-west & New England get blizzards, the East Coast & Gulf Coast get hurricanes & floods. I am thinking of moving back to California!

I lived for a couple of years in Marin, right across from San Francisco and I liked it for a lot of reasons. What I didn't like was owing to cultural reasons, like no snow, no tree variety, too entirely laid back in many ways...I moved back to NY State for personal reasons, but I often think I should have stayed.

A good percent of people in any area of the country wants to leave their native area, having different reasons, but often it is just to leave.

My advice is to try to visit various places for more than a few days, couple of months when possible, to get the "flavor" of the places, and then see how you feel.

But then, I do hear that it rains a lot in the Northwest coast....

Well, you asked...............impassible roads, gang graffiti everywhere, earthquakes, mudslides, brush fires, riots, air and water pollution, racial strife, ultra high prices ........honestly, I'd rather live just about anywhere else. California was paradise back in the late forties and early fifties, but it is now an overcrowded violent hell. I have lived in several locations south of Santa Barbara, and the only ones that I remember fondly are Ojai and San Nicolas Island. The rest of the state is horrible!

I lived in the Santa Cruz Mountains and thought it was paradise, lofe San Francisco too. But it was 40 years ago , things have changed.
Most of all I no longer can afford to live there. I still think it is a little piece of heaven. By the way I now live in WNC.

I LOVE IT!! Especially southern Cali near LA/ Hollywood. I love it for the awesome beaches, the weather, for me hot girls!, and the night life! Plus Vegas is just a drive away as well, the culture and environment fits me perfectly

It's a good state. Some people, if they live here or come for vacation, they don't want to leave because they love it and they love the weather.

It's a nice place to be in!

Well I grew up here in Oregon and we were raised that Californians come up here buy all our land and basically destroy it.

Then I found Mr. who lived and worked down there for quite a few years. He told me it is nothing like what I have herd. He says it is quite pretty down there in some spots.

Rainy all over the Northwest right now....but for you I bet it is good for the fires hu?

If you moved far away you would be so homesick....

Good luck with your choices....

I think it's full of fruits and nuts. I lived in the San Jose area for a few years and hated every minute of it.

I loved it, but couldn't afford it.

Southern Cal is a bit too dry for me, but I really loved north of S.F.
