Old books , well not really old. Written in the eighties to nineties I think. They are about the earth being separated into five different elements. World of trees, world of air. I cant remember all the details but these books were borrowed from a library in Jamaica and I had to return them, but there was one with a dragon and a really hilarious old wizard. These books got my little brother interested in reading. He loves books now and they were really good if anyone knows what I'm talking about, tell me where I can find them. Website, bookstore, any where. I know theres not only one copy of them.

Ah, that's the Death Gate Cycle by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman (also of Dragonlance fame). A series of seven books; the first four each took place on one of the four 'worlds' into which Earth had been sundered, and then the final three pull the story all together. The befuddled wizard was Zifnab, a fun 'cameo' from the Dragonlance series actually. Very enjoyable series - you can find them at Amazon (here's the first one, Dragon Wing: http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Death-Gate-Cycle-Book/dp/0553286390/sr=8-1/qid=1162510759/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-7982393-1739239?ie=UTF8&s=books)

And for what it's worth, here are the titles of the books in order:

Dragon Wing
Elven Star
Fire Sea
Serpent Mage
The Hand of Chaos
Into the Labyrinth
The Seventh Gate

Have fun =)

Just wanted to thank you for asking this question & to the person who gave the first reply suggesting the library of congress.

I've been trying to find out who wrote a book called "The Cave of Winds" & posting a question here brought me no answer ... however I went to the library of congresss & from there to the British Library.

I found the name of the author after searching in the British Library ... now I just have to find a copy of the book.

So thanks again - to you & to your first replier - who, although not giving you the right answer, led me to where I could answer my own question.

i might propose for myth: a perfectly comedic author named Terry Pratchett. His Discworld books are very humorous, dramatic and in basic terms undeniable stupid in components. David Eddings is yet another author i might propose. attempt the Belgariad series, The Malloreon series and his Sparhawk novels. For Scifi: i might attempt John Christopher's Tripod series. Anne McCaffery's Dragonriders of Pern Tower and the Hive series concepts and Brawn series and because you assert you like Harry, i might attempt Diane Duane's youthful Wizard series. they're very different from Harry, so which you will possibly be able to delight in them.

Amazon offers a lot of out of print items. Finding the title(s) would be very helpful for that but you could always put a search on their site using some of the things you mention above.

They are not sci-fi. They are fantasy. Without the name or author, you're pretty much stuck with checking the book stores. Try Half-price books, Borders Books, Walden books
