I'm the new girlfriend, my boyfriend has a child and is paying child support. My boyfriend and i are thinking of getting married and startinng a family. But I'm concerned because he is paying a lot for childsupport right now. Will it go down once we start having children? I just don't see us making it financially. We live in CA so you can imagine how much his child support is.

child support will not go down unless under extreme cases (diability, etc). also take into consideration: if you are married: in some states, the ex can take him back to court and have the child support reflective of both yours and his income! I have been in the same situation as you and ended up sacrificing 9 years of my life and salary. I am not saying there is anything wrong with your boyfriend at all-but please look at life down the road and put yourself FIRST.

No, child support will not decrease if he chooses to create more children. You probably will not be able to afford to have kids with this man- sorry, but kids are expensive and that's the reality. If you do have kids (1 would be all you can afford if you stay with him), you'll probably have to work full-time for 18 years because most of his salary will be going to his first family. As his kid gets older, his ex could request even more support because older kids need more.
You're right to be concerned. I hope he's worth not having kids of your own, or living a very meager lifestyle, and working nonstop to support his family.
(This is one reason why I never dated a man with kids.)

If your working then the mother of that child can take him back to court after your married and fight for more money considering that his income will be increased as far as the court is concerned.

Really think about this. If you marry him your going to need to accept the fact that your kids aren't going to have the best situation. Money won't be there like they may need and Dad's attention may not be there like they need it to be.

I'm not saying don't marry him. But what I am saying is that if you can't live with that type of situation don't marry him and ruin not only his current kids life but your future kids life, your life and his life because you can't accept the reality of the situation.

If you get married and start a family of your own, then it will be reason enough for the CSA to reconsider the payments.

He will have other children to provide for, so that will be taken in to consideration for a re-asessment.

However he will be required to fulfill his responsibilites to his other child, to ensure that that child is taken care of aswell.
