first subtract 2x from both sides to get:

-7=3x+7

then add 7 to both sides to get:
-14=3x
x=-14/3 or -4 2/3

2006-11-02 10:26:48 · answer #1 · answered by Anonymous · 3 0

2x - 7 = 5x + 7
2x - 7 - 2x = 5x + 7 - 2x
-7 = 3x + 7
-7 + 7 = 3x + 7 - 7
0 = 3x
0/3 = 3x/3
0 =x
that makes this answer not true because 2(0) -7 =5(0) +7 is
- 7 = +7

2x - 7 = 5x + 7
-7 -7 = 5x - 2x
-14 = 3x
-14 / 3 = x

2x - 7 = 5x + 7
(2x - 5x) = 7 + 7 (combine like terms)
-3x = 14 (divide by 3)
x = -14/3

you should do 2x+7=5x+13 -2x =-2x ---------------- 7=3x+13<-----the reason i subtracted 13 from both part is because i already took -13 =-13 2 from the different part... so this suggests that is necessary to take -------------- from the option part -6=3x 3 =3 ---------- <----------i divided 3 from both part...then my answer got here out to be -3 -3=x
