17 yrs ago, I was pregnant, on bed rest, and my husband was in the Navy out to sea. It was Christmas, and I had very little money to get gifts for my nieces and nephews. So I went and bought a box of christmas ornaments, and decorated them. I made a Mickey Mouse for my neice, and a rudolph for one of my nephews. Anyway, this has turned into a holiday tradition. My Niece is now in college, and still looks forward to her ornament every year. Its very inexpensive, and quite personal to the receiver. Have fun doing what ever it is you choose to do. Happy Holidays!!!

I found a really cool way to jazz up candles that you can buy at the dollar store. Try to get unscented pillars or tapers, or a scent that would go well with cinnamon like vanilla or cranberry, etc.
Take a big pot (deep enough to emerge the candles in) and bring water to a boil. Have the candle ready next to the pot with some foil under them. Turn the heat off of the stove and wait for the water to calm. Then, hold the candle by the wick, sprinkle cinnamon (quite a bit) so that it sets on top of the water, then, gently dip the candle all the way to the wick, hold in the water for a few seconds, then slowly pull it from the water. The few seconds in the hot water melts it a little and then when you pull it out, it makes the cinnamon stick to it. Let the candle dry and the tie some raffia around it. You can add cinnamon sticks, dried orange slices or berries and such from a pot pouri mix. For a real rustic look, I wrap a piece of corrugated cardboard around and tie it with twine. Or for the fancier look, use ribbon and dried roses.
The candle look very home made and smell fantastic!!!!!

Hope you try my idea!!!! Have Fun!!!

My wife and I go to the Dollar store and buy a small round vases they sell there for a buck and colored beads or pebbles. Then we get some kind of Christmas Lighted ornament and take the lights off it. Then put them inside the vase, cover them with the pebbles, which by the way are made out of colored glass. Buy a bottle of scented oil and pour some over the pebbles.
Cover with a doily and tie a ribbon around the neck of the vase to fasten the doily down. You can get everything at the Dollar store for about $5 or $6 for each light. Plug it in and when it heats up you have a scented lamp.

I'm crocheting a scarf for one of my friends. If you don't know how to crochet or knit, you can always bake some homemade Christmas cookies and put them in festive tins. Everyone appreciates cookies! Or fudge, if you know how to make that. It's pretty easy.
