When each of my 3 sons were around 2 weeks old they would eat so much they threw it all up every time they ate. My doctor put each one on rice cereal. After a couple weeks of thick rice cereal bottles I gave them rice with bananas. I then figured I could add baby foods for different flavors. It then went to just baby food,. By the time my second son was 4 months old he could eat a variety of table foods from mashed potatoes to cottage cheese. I never gave him anthing he could choke on. He is now almost 2, not allergic to a thing, a perfect weight ( kind of petite) and nothing is wrong. So you cn start feeding your baby when you think it's time. Don't worry about what others say, Your the mom and Mother knows best. lol. Good Luck!!

Let him tell you. The right time isn't based solely on your baby's age. It's based on the following physical and developmental signs of readiness. He may be ready to begin solids when he:
Sits with support and has good head control
Doubled birth weight and weighs at least 13 pounds
Continues to be hungry after 8 to 10 breast feedings or drinks 32 ounces of formula a day.
Check out www.gerber.com they have great resources and a lot of information!
Good Luck, starting solids is an exciting time, just remember that if your baby doesn't like a food you introduce don't give up, wait a few days and keep reintroducing---the more you try the more likely they'll learn to like it!

When baby can sit up assisted, and when he/she opens mouth and leans towards the spoon and does not push the food back out with his/her tongue. Also, start with one food item and let baby try it over the course of 3-4 days before introducing another new food. This way if there's an allergy there will be no question as to which food is causing the reaction.

Depending on how old you baby is,
I believe 4-5 months you can intorduce the baby to vegetables
and fruits, either boil them or but them in a jar for baby food
But you can lern more by you Pediatrician or throught the internet.

Around 6 mos of age, per the AAP.
Starting earlier increases the chances of allergies, diabetes and obesity.
LLL recommends starting wish mashed bananas, avocados and sweet potatoes.

i can't tell you how it was for other people but i started my daughter at 4 months. i breast fed but by 4 months she was hungry after the feeds - poor sleeping and cranky - same as me if i am hungry! we started her on baby rice and then progressed to veggies and fruit. never looked back after that - lots of lovely sleep and a nice full tum!
good luck - talk to your health visitor
