Why is it that people always scream about the dangers of Drugs and ignore the fact that Alcohol Abuse is MORE COMMON, JUST AS DANGEROUS, and RUINS MORE LIVES! Is it purely because one is Legal the other not!

Because alcohol is much more socially acceptable and it's easier to attack drugs. Plus, we tried Prohibition and it didn't work.

Here here. Its because we encouraged to use alcohol and it is socially acceptable, because other drugs are illegal there is a stigma around them, people forget that alcohol is a very harmful and addictive drug, because they don't see it as a drug, it is seen as a seperate entity, but you're right, its not. And you never hear people screaming about the dangers of prescrition drugs - how many people are popping anti depressants, valium, anti-psychotic drugs, and the many thousands of other drugs available - it's ok to take mindblowing substances if your doctor gives them to you, but its not ok to smoke some weed and get high! Ridiculous.

I reckon the fact that alcohol is a depressant has a lot to do with it. It dulls the senses. The people who are controlling us don't want us taking mind expanding drugs - they want to keep us stupid and obedient. So they make alcohol ok and stigmatise everything else.

I think alcohol is actually classed as a drug in chemisrty, and it is more dangerous than weed etc. It should be banned really, but look what happened in america when they tried. I think people including myself need a release and the end of a hard weeks work. Compare alcohol to weed, how many fights are there on a saturday/friday night when people are intoxicated with alcohol?? tens of thousands across the country i would bet. With weed id be suprised if there were 100. wats wrong with this picture??

People who work in alcohol abuse class it as a drug, which it is, and there has been a huge amount in the press recently about binge drinking. Public perception is changing, slowly.
There is a huge amount of hypocrisy on both sides. Cannabis users for example flatly refuse to recognise the damage the stuff can do to them and piously point at alkies as being in worse case, while people with livers like cheese who land complete strangers in hosptial under influence of this legal drug sniff at 'druggies' .

People don't scream about the dangers of alcohol? I don't believe that's true. And have you heard of Prohibition? This country went so far as to make the sale and consumption of (most) alcohol illegal. It worked out fairly miserably. But even today, people do "scream" about the dangers of alcohol, drinking and driving, etc., all the time.

Your question is similar to "why don't people talk about all the other children who went missing, instead of just (JonBenet Ramsey/Natalee Holloway)"? "Why don't they talk about the danger of heart disease as much as they talk about AIDS, when more people die of heart disease?"

Of course, people talk about what interests them, what affects them, what bothers them, and can't talk about everything. Drug abuse may be less of a problem than alcohol, but it's still a huge problem that affects a large number of people, and, yes, there is the added factor that drugs are illegal, so it's more naturally related to crime, whereas alcohol isn't necessarily.

But "people" can't "always" scream about everything, it would just be too exhausting. Imagine if every time you wanted to warn about the dangers of alcohol, you also "had to" warn about the dangers of smoking and doing drugs and ... you get the picture. You're going to talk about the things that affect you, bother you, interest you.

I've never done either and don't care to. I am not convinced that recreational use of either is innocent. Mostly because I read the paper every day and am a scaredy cat. But at least I don't have a criminal record!

Is alcohol abuse more common? If so then its because its legal and easily available unlike drugs.
Alcohol in moderation can actually be good for you and is occasionally recommended by doctors. I am sure that also soon cannabis will be available as a treatment for many illnesses.

Yes, that's the reason... it's accepted into our culture as we were started by people from countries that drank on a very regular basis. Sometimes things don't make sense and are simply ingrained into people's heads.

You are right they should legalize drugs. They would be able to tax them and we could enjoy our highs way more. That is what you meant right? Good question Cheech
