I prefer Acuvue myself, I also have astigmatism. Even when I forget to take them out for a day (or a week) they're still fine.

I use Acuvue Advance, but your optometrist is the best person to ask. I was using the same contacts for ages, and she ended up switching me to a brand (Acuvue) that turned out to be ten times better for me.
As for wearing makeup, etc, as long as you take care of your lenses and keep them clean, it really shouldn't cause any problems for you. If you don't change out your lenses often enough though, you can get an eye infection.
Have your parents take you to the eye doctor and discuss is with him/her.

I have astigmatism as well and I use Vertex Toric. If you go to the eye doctor they should recommend what brand to get.
