This happens all the time. I think that is part of the reason governments like to assign ID numbers to people.
Surely you've heard about the people who get stopped at airports for being on the "no fly" list - except that it is somebody else with the same name.
Actually at the same branch of the bank I use there is another customer with EXACTLY the same name. Sometimes there are small confusions when I go in, but all the ATM card and on-line transactions are perfect.

Well yes. Some companies and even social security has made mistakes but this is why you always want to check your credit rating since it's the greatest way to know if there's anything going on that could be mistaken identity. BUt for the most part, you should be fine even with the exact same name... What's in a name right?

Yes, it effects you. As long as it is just a name in the computer bases than people associate that name with you. Until all of your information is compared to the other you, than you are that person. That is part of the reason why they have your photo and social security.

There was a study done (I saw on pbs I think) on names of people and how alike those people were. The results were actually quite amazing. A lot of people with the same names had the same values, likenesses, and even the same amounts of success. Weird stuff.

My name is not uncommon, and the odds are much in favor that someone else has it. Throw in a birthday, and that will get rid of 364 out of 365 of such, and as for the rest, if it ever comes to that, we'l just have to wing it.

I googled my name, which is very unusual, and there is a person with the exact same name as me who is quite a good marathon runner apparently. It's definitely not me.
I just hope she doesn't start committing crimes.

No, millions of people on this earth have the exact same names.....but they only have one SS# attached to that name. That's what makes them who they are.

Even if they have the same name, they would have different birthdays, addresses, drivers license and social security numbers.
