When buying on ebay, paypal is overwhelmingly the better option. Here are some reasons:

1) Paypal is a secure site that never sends your creditcard information to the seller.

2) Paypal maintains a paper trail for your money, which can be used in court to prove that your transaction occured.

3) Paypal offers insurance for your purchase.

4) When purchasing via money order, there is very little recourse if your purchased item is not sent to you. While you might leave the seller negative feedback, or even have ebay ban them, it is not difficult for them to simply open another ebay account (and they keep your money!).

5) Your credit card transaction is protected by your credit card company. This offers a range of services such as monthly payments, disputes, etc...

6) It is easy for your money order to be:
a) lost in the mail
b) denied by the seller
c) eaten by angry beavers

Sellers must pay a fee to accept payments by paypal - which is why many sellers will ask that you pay via another method.

Purchasing via reputable online companies such as Paypal is less of a security risk than paying via credit card at the Mall. At the mall, you'll actually hand your precious credit card to a human being - who could easily steal the information off the card. With Paypal, your card# is encrypted and known only to a heavily-firewalled computer.

If you absolutely must pay via mail, use a personal check - as you will have at least some tangible papertrail when it is processed. Never ever ever use Western Union, as this is like sending cash to the seller.

No. I do not think it's blown out of proporiton at all. This was a huge tragedy. I don't think this can be compared to Iraq because there's a civil war right now in Iraq and as unfortunate and sad as it is, deaths are expected there. In VA Tech were college students and professors learning and teaching what they love. It was a shock, it was an awful thing for the college, for the families and friends, and for the nation. Some Americans may care more about Americans. But Iraq probably cares more about Iraq. Just like every other nation puts their citizens first. I'm not trying to sound obnoxious or rude I'm just stating that this is a fact of life. The VA Tech tragedy was also closer to home. The victims deserve their stories told. However I will say I think the gunman Cho is getting WAY too much publicity. The victims deserve more attention than the killer. Some people believe there's no such thing as negative press and by showing his video message, pictures, etc. the media can be inspiring another young, attention-craving, distrubed child to commit a similar act in order to get the same attention. The victims deserve more attention and the killer deserves less.

Paypal.

First - money orders are not insured, in general. This is high risk considering that there is untold amounts of fraud occurring within any online auction community - including ebay.

Second - ebay OWNS paypal. Paypal was specifically purchased to ensure an ease of transaction and in an instance where a seller is fraudulent - it's MUCH easier to recover funds.

Of curse Pay pal is much better. I like to pay with Pay Pal, by a few mouse clicks than going out to purchase money order, and go to post office and mail it to seller, then wait until seller receive the money order and then start the shipping process. Remember, you have to start your pay pal process soon, it might take up to several days before you become a member with verified address. I think you have to give your checking information to pay pall, and they will then deposit something to your checking account, and you have to contact your bank\account to find out how much was it and tell Paypall.\
it's like 30 to 70 cents) just for verifications. Then you will be a member with verified address.

Well pay however you want, but make sure before you bid or buy that the seller will accept check or money order. Some just accept pay pal. and of course, pay pal is a lot quicker for getting your item to you.

Paypal is faster, but they have a lot of internal problems and I no longer use them due to all the trouble I've had with them. (Paynpal is what I like to call them now.) But I was more into selling than buying.
Money orders take longer and are a bit more of a hassle, but that is what I now recommend.

Paypal is very safe and secure.
It's faster to go through paypal because you can instantly transfer your money.

You can go through money order as well, but it does take longer for the seller to receive it and to cash it. Then to ship out your item.

For personal experiences, I'd rather have my buyers pay through paypal. I've had issues of buyers saying they mailed over money order, but I never did receive their payment.

Pay Pal is quicker, since you don't have to wait on snail mail to get your MO to the seller. Plus Pay Pal is pretty darn secure.

Take Care!
