No, you are not alone. Yes I get very annoyed with the commercialism of the holiday. Seems like everyone has forgotton what the holiday really means. I must admit, that I am not as annoyed with the "stuff" going out as early as it does, as I am with these big stores (kmart - walmart) all being open on thanksgiving day, and some on christmas. Its just corporate greed. Its no wonder our world has gone in a downword spiral, there are no morals or values left thanks to greed. Great question, thanks for letting me vent!!!

Having worked in retail, I understand the need to get merchandise out, in preparation for the season. that is why you see Spring clothes in January, and Fall clothes in June.
The only thing I find annoying is when I see Valentines Day merchandise put out the day after Christmas--and sometimes a few days before! Talk about a Christmas buzz-kill!

AGREE with you totally. I was the manager of a Video and Book Store combined and I refused to allow any Christmas decorations to be put up until after Thanksgiving. the district manager ( bless his heart ) left this decision to the individual store managers.

I don't mind. I don't put up Christmas decorations until after Thanksgiving, but some people like to decorate early. My SIL decorates for Christmas before Halloween. I don't mind if she does that, and she has to buy new decorations somewhere. As long as stores keep carrying Halloween and Thanksgiving decor for me in October and November, then it's not a problem.

Yes it drives me crazy. I go to target about a week ago to go get some stuff for halloween, and they are already clearing out the holloween stuff and putting in the christmas stuff instead. Im not even intrested in buying anything christmas-related until the end of november. And all my actual gift buying will be done about a week b4 christmas because im good and procrastinate liek that=] but seriously, do they think they are going to sell christmas stockings when a lot of people are still carving pumpkins? i dont think so, lets take it one holliday at a time.

It should be illegal to have Christmas decorations up before Halloween. Don't worry. Inflatable Santa's can't get hurt, and the store manager really does enjoy eating glass ornaments. You didn't get maniacal at all.

I am with you on this one, in fact I was thinking about not participating anymore. I've already stopped celebrating Thanksgiving. I hate seeing Christmas stuff in Oct. Next is the Christmas music!!!! I am SO tired of being broke and in debt from this holiday.

Yes, it is very annoying. The Mayor of my town in Jackson, MI was just talking about this subject and had talked about a trip he took to Ireland last December. He was saying that there they wait until mid December to put up the Christmas decorations. It sounded to me like they have their stuff together. I really think that here in the States we should follow their lead and wait, but I am probably just dreaming.
