I bought a used ipod from my friend. It is a 20gb, 1st gen ipod. Whenever I plugged it in the computer without using the disk first, it seemed to charge fine. Nothing is happening now when I plug it in after I used the disk, it seems as though the computer is not recognizing it, even though it did yesterday. I went to install the ipod to my computer, and everything was fine, and then I got to configuring it, and it will not work.

I have a nano, and it works just fine, and configured fine, on the same computer. I'm using the same usb cords for both, and still only the nano works.

Why is this? Please help!

Had the same thing happen with a mini. It could be the harddrive failing. My computer would not recognize it part of the time and when it finally did, It would state "Ipod cannot be written to / read from" on the error message.

Had the Harddrive replaced and it works fine.
