the first plug on the driver side by the power steering pump. It should be labled on the intake manifold after you scrape the grease and gunk off, all of the cylinders should be labled as well as the firing order which should be located by the carburator base either the front of the back of the intake.

First have # 1 cylinder at top dead center, left front of engine block , drivers side. Neat see where the distributor rotor is pointing in relation to the cap. It should be pointing to one of the inside contacts, that is #1 next is 8, then 4, then 3 , 6 , 5 ,7, 2 rotating around the cap clockwise.

take out number 1 plug and turn the crank till its on top dead center and see where the rotor is pointing at and put number 1 wire there on the dist.cap and see which way the rotor is turning and then do the firing order in the direction the rotor is turning.
