why do people say "THATS GAY"?

its soo rude. and most of the time it has NOTHING to do with sexually....?

People say "that's gay" as a negative comment because to be gay is bad. Being gay used to mean happy, which was a good thing. But when it came to mean attracted to someone of the same gender, it had a completely negative connotation.

People are not being honest when they claim it has nothing to do with gay people.

And people act like it's something new, when it's not. People did it in the 'seventies. Referring to something gay meant it was stupid or undesirable or something negative.

People use that expression, and claim they have nothing against gay people and will claim they have so many gay friends and blah blah blah. Well, I've never met a single gay person who liked that practice, though some will go so far as to say that if you know the person doesn't mean it as an insult, it's not so bad.

But then again, the very first thing that comes out when the insults start to fly between heterosexual men is the word *******. Or they'll call the other guy a **********. Or just overall ridicule the guy by implying he's gay. regardless of whether it's true or not. And if you call them on it, guess what a lot of them will say? The same old b.s - they've got loads of gay friends and they don't have a thing against gay people.

Gay is bad. That's how people think. Or a majority of them, despite their protests to the contrary. It's not being overly-sensitive to point it out, either. It's being honest.

people say it without even thinking that it could mean something else. when its brought to their attention (if it is, that is) its mostly just brushed off. but i wouldn't stand for it. whenever my friend says it, i kick him. not hard, but just so he would take notice of what he said. i do it alot. i don't like it one bit. its offensive.

i knwo its just a thing people say but its still a sensitive issue. when the time comes and its not so sensitive anymore, then it won't be a problem. but that time isn't gonna come anytime soon.

i, for one, can say thats something I've never said. ever. and i'm glad for that.

something thats offensive for one group, the phrsae would sooner or later go mainstrean and mean something totally different, but still derogatory. it sucks

It's habbit I think. I used to say this. It just means stupid or whatever. I think it shoudl be changed in the dictionary. I was broke of this habit though when my best friend ( gay man) got onto me about it. I don't think people even mean to say it....I know I never did.
