does anyone know if it's ok to get novocaine while breastfeeding? my dentist wants to do a deep cleaning...

They will probably not use novacaine. It's rare that they do these days. More likely, they will use Xylocaine/Lidocaine. Check with your dentist about what specific drug he will use. Xylocaine is perfectly safe for use on breastfeeding moms. (If you have an episiotomy with a local, that's what they would use....or if you need stitches after an unmedicated birth.) See the links below on anestheics and dental work. I've had Xylocaine while breastfeeding several times for dental work or for stitches and had no problems from it.

I was given novacaine while I was pregnant. If it's ok while you're pregnant it should be while you're breastfeeding. Your dentist would be the one to ask though.

most dentists no longer use novacaine. they use lidocaine. I had it when i breast fed and it was fine.
