Need be help on attention grabber for my short essay?

I am doing a short essay about Edward Larson, and i wanted to know if mines is alright or if i should make some revisions:
" Larson definitely captivated the essence of how evolution impacted the U.S. in the early twentieth century and today
"

I would use the word "captured" instead of "captivated", but otherwise it is great.
