The rear shocks on a 300e are OEM Bilsteins. The list price is about $150.00 each. They commonly sell for about $120.00
The labor to install them is usually about $25.00 each.
So your total bill even at list price should not excede $350. plus taxes.

If you have a S560SEL then the Hydropneumatic unit is more expensive. About $450.00 list street price about $375.00 Link below is for just the Hydropneumatic unit. Fittings and hoses are extra.

Do not try to retrofit standard shocks to the rear of a Hydropneumatic rear suspension car. The unit acts as both a shock absorber and a load leveling unit the keep the rear of the car from saging under load.

It sounds like you have a "S" class sedan.

Don't let the other people razz you about owning a Benz. They are the best automobile money can buy, But it does take some to keep them running.

See the links below for parts costs first link is for the 300e,
The second link is for the S560sel

It is possible to "Eliminate" a hydraulic-shock system and replace it with a conventional shock absorber style.Parts could be found at a "salvage" yard. The wiser choice would be to leave it original, shop around,go on line, locate another source,may-be even consider buying "used" parts! Good luck!

It is advisable to replace both sides as the handling may be affected otherwise. The chances are the second shock will be on it's way out soon anyway.

I looked this up as a 300 se as you didn't state what you had. It's far below $1800, what a rip off they are pulling on you. Look up the correct shocks if I made a bad guess.
