It's called a uvula, and it helps with the pronounciation of words I think. Check out this encyclopedia link.

That's your uvula. It plays a role in the forming of sounds during speech, but is much less important when speaking the English language than it is for Arabic, Hebrew, French, German, and other guttural languages.

The thing that looks like a punching bag??? That is the Uvula... I don't have one.. It was taken out to help reduce my snoring...

its called a uvula, go ahead and laugh. its part of your immune system. traps bacteria and other nasties that come into you mouth
