Absolutely. Coccinellid beetles are male and female, just like virtually all other animal species. The reason for the name "lady bug" is actually related to mythology. Folklore held that the lady bug, or "lady bird" in England and by translation in other European languages, was a creature that served various female mythological figures. In German, the name Freyjuhaena refers to the fertility goddess Freyja. The English "lady" refers to the Virgin Mary.
