if it is a radiant heater the tick your hearing is the metal cooling down wich is normal this time of year when you first start using them. if it is a central heating unit the ticking is most likely coming from the electrostatic air cleaning filter do to dust build up between the fins. you can clean this in your bath tub with a kitchen degreaser and luke warm water. Hot water will warp the fins and make it tick worse. be careful not to bend the fins when your handling the filter and they are sharp also so be safe. GOOD LUCK !!!

try the black wire but seriously find out what is ticking and see if you can secure it and brace it either some metal against it or metal strap tighted to it and secured somewhere where it can be tighten to prevent the contractions or change your heater. either way once you get rid of that nosie another will find it's way to your ears. even if you are alone on a mountain top there is always the wind to reach out and bring forth sound to your ears

what kind of heater. electric, oil? heaters tick because the metal expands and contracts when it gets hot. there is nothing you can do about it.

It is the heating and cooling of the metal.

You can't change it.
