The ritual of slaughtering halal meat/chicken is that the animal has to be fed before slaughter cut from the throat with a very sharp knife, hanged upside down to make sure all the blood is drained out and blessed in the name of God. Both Muslim and Jewish people follow this ritual, what is your views in terms of animal welfare and health issues?

Of course I would. After understanding the theory and practice behind the slaughtering process, I suggest that this is the most righteous way for the animals, and the healthiest process for the consumers.

Using a sharp knife - This is good since it doesn't hurt the chicken as it would if using a not very sharp knife. Not to mention that the slaughtering has to be done at one go (I mean you cannot remove the knife from the cutting spot on the chicken and put the knife back on it again to continue slaughter. You must do it once and if you are done, that's it. Of course this requires skill, that's why we have qualified people to do it.) This strict procedure is a guide so that humans will practice not to cause too much pain in animals that are slaughtered.

Hanged upside down --> It doesn't be necessarily hanged upside down. We can just hold the chicken upright by our hands and slaughter it at the lower neck. Maybe in the slaughtering house they may use machines to make this process faster, thus hanging the chickens upside down. However, I believe non-halal chickens that are processed in factories are done in a quite similar way.

Blood is drained out - I am not good at explaining the biological and health benefits for this, but I am sure by draining out the blood from the chicken it will reduce the risk of infections be viral or bacterial to us consumers.

Blessed in the name of God - The chickens are created by the God for a purpose. When chickens are slaughtered (including other animals), they are also done to seek favour from the God.

you would be suprised how many of us eat halal meat without even realising we are.

In places like Leicester where there is a large muslim/asian community most of the meat sold is halal

you dont get a choice, its all you can buy in the supermarkets, you would have to go to a small family type butcher to get meat that is not halal.

people are given it without being given the choice because it is what is demanded by other religions.

if you gave a muslim meat that is not halal they would not know cos it doesnt taste any different.

its just another of their demands!!

whilst in their own country (which is very hot) and refrigeration is not accessible in some places, it is essential that all the blood is drained from the animal to avoid it going bad, this is where it originates from. If the animal is not stunned it struggles when its throat is cut therefore the blood flow does not stop which therefore drains more blood out of the animal.

no need for it in this country though, but again it is US that are not given the choice.

Personally i think its cruel and unnecesary and i dont buy meat if i know it is halal

I doubt whether anyone would agree with it unless they were a muslim or a jew

Actually it's been scientifically proven that animals that are slaughtered the Halal way die a less painful death. The blood which is the main carrier of diseases, is also drained out properly therefore Halal meat is cleaner and healthier. Anyone can eat Halal meat, it's not just for Muslims :)

The animals that are slaughtered for halal meat suffer less than other animals do, I have tried halal meat and its fine, we have one of the best curry houses in the UK about 10 miles from were I live that produces the best halal curry you have ever tasted, its so good they have won awards for their fine cuisine.

Would you really know the difference unless you had been told, I think the animal would suffer more, which would be against the word of God.

Meat is meat, if I'm going to eat an animal I really don't care how it lived or died, as long as it doesn't adversely affect the flavour.
