You'll learn a stretching routine which you'll do during each ballet class (and are encouraged to do regularly at home as well as practicing the dances) Then you'll learn a few simple steps. I'm in a beginners class as well as an intermediate one. The girls in my beginners class are all 14. They first learned arabesque, saché, the 5 positions, chané turns, piqué turns, balancé, changma, boureé turns, pa de basque, plié, tondue, releve and pa de boureé, (some of these are spelled wrong) all in about the first 3-5 lessons. The teacher will go slow and correct you if you need it. Don't be embarrassed or take it offensivley if she does,( i used to when I was younger) She wants you to be at your best and to succeed, take it as a compliment, or a favor. When pointinting your toe, remember that the front of your foot should be turned out to the front of the room at all times. Keep your thumb tucked down, curve your arms so that it looks as if you have no elbows or wrists. Kepp good posture and don't bend your legs. Pretend you are royalty, dance with poise, try to look proper. You'll probably put a couple steps together to create the first part of a dance in the first few lessons. Work hard and don't be discouraged. Some begginners in your class might have the "theres no way i can do this" feeling. Tell yourself you can do it...because its true. Don't give up on it. Ask questions if you don't understand and really put some effort into it even if you look like the only one really trying. Your teacher will be impressed, but unlike school, there is no report card or grade, and the real goal is to impress yourself. Saying the steps out loud will help you memorize them. Say them with the teacher even if your the only one. If you want to get a head start look up some of the steps I mentioned. Sorry i don't know any specific websites that explain them all. I do know a good one to learn the five positions though. (very important)

A good beginner class will teach you the five positions of the feet and arms. You'll warm up at the barre doing simple exercises and maybe go into the centre or across the floor. Ballet is the foundation for all forms of dance and a great way to get started in the dance world.

Since ballet originated in France, most of the terms are in french. There is a great "dictionary" by Gail Grant that explains a lot of ballet terms and how to pronounce them.

THE A B Cs. Will I ever have the power to know which letter comes after which letter and what letter is before each letter without the song itself and completely memorize it?! Even to know which is the 17th or 16th letter without checking? No. Thank you A B C damn song. You have done well. I guess I wasn't the kind to be too polite and formal with people, I enjoyed being as casual as possible. Like.... Instead of saying good morning, there will be a simple hi or something. Lol. I still say it of course... At times. Sometimes it isn't hard to spot me thanks to that. I was taught that reading was ... Well .. I was told one of the things liked about me was that I enjoyed reading and that I should continue doing it because I get to know lots of new information from reading. I still do that... Sometimes the frosting is the only reason I eat it in the first place... Depending on what kind of cake it was. ...Now you made me hungry. Eat? No I'm gonna drink. Just because. I ate a few minutes ago before I edited this again. The advice of being yourself is being done at the maximum rate. I think. MORE THAN 10 STARS IN 3 HOURS :O *stands up and claps*
