It depends on where you want to work. If you ONLY have a certificate, you'd be lucky to find a minimum wage job. If you have a university degree (in any field) plus a TESL certificate, you should be able to find work for about $15 (USD) per hour (I made about $18.50 CAD per hour this summer). The problem is finding FULL-TIME work; few schools pay for prep time so the only way to make a decent living is to teach eight hours a day in the classroom and then do all your prep work outside those hours, without pay (count on about thirty minutes of prep time per hour of class time). If your certificate didn't include supervised teaching practice, it's not worth the paper it's printed on. Good luck finding a job with that.

there are web sites out there spacificall for teachers to find jobs and they list the type and how much.... for california you can look at ed-join to get an idea of pay rates....your area may have the same.... try looking under your counties office of education for employment oppertunities and it may have a link to a similar site to help you research your options.
