You probably have a bad water(inlet) valve. You are most likely setting the machine for a warm wash and cold rinse. What is happening is you are getting a hot wash and when it goes to rinse you are not getting cold water and the machine just sits there. Check this out and if I am right replace the inlet valve.(where the fill hoses are attached)

You have a bad timer. It has been a lot of years since I serviced appliances, but at that time they cost around $100. Replacement parts are high, plus you have to pay for someone to come out. I think you will find it better to buy a new washer. Before you do that though, it is good to check the door switch.

Hi
Sounds to me like your timer may be shot. You can try to force it past that cycle and see if it keeps going. If it does, replace the timer.
If you can , buy the timer and install yourself, it is very easy. To buy a timer, call all local washer repair places, as prices can vary by quite a bit. Sears wanted $180. for a timer, got one for $46. at repair shop. 5 years later, washer still going strong.
