i rent a house and i have landlord who does nothing. the roof in my room has been leaking for the past year, he has supposedly fixed it but it still leaks.

Now, he hasn't fixed the hole in the interior which is developing mold as well as the whole wall. the wall is turning yellow, brown and black. and the paint is chipping.

I've getting sick a lot lately (flu-like symptoms, rashes/bumps on arms, caughing etc...), are there any possible health concerns as a result of mold on walls?

How do i make him fix this problem?
What is the legal way to withhold rent?
How do get a health inspector?

thanks

Get a camera and take a full roll of pictures of the conditions in the house that are the responsibility of the landlord. Get them developed promptly so they are dated.

Contact the Renters Court or Landlord court
(I have never rented) and get this on record.

If you have to go to the Police Department and ask what you should do.

But do not live or sleep in that room. Call the County or city health department and explain the problem, they should be able to refer you to the correct offices to file complaints about the problem.

This needs to be fixed fast. If the landlord refuses to fix it I would move. You could get seriously ill in the time he fixes it by either being sued or you withholding rent. All this takes time. This kind of mold is extremely dangerous to your health! I would suggest a health checkup to see how things are at this point! Good luck!

best thing to do is move, failing that call in the health department and put your notice in. legally you can not with hold rent money on this situation or anything else you don't like or feel is not right. you can take him to court and have a court order made out for him to fix it and get compensated that way. best is to move on and leave his problems with him to deal with. call the city and start asking questions and don't stop til you find someone. most citys have directories in their phone books. talk to him and show him first then take the approiate steps as the health athorites will ask you if you did that first as they do not want to waist their time on someone who will listen and take care of the problem. also document all that you do and say and see with pictures good ones

OK first you need to find out if your city has a landlord trouble hot line, if not then go to your city clerk of recorder and file a complaint with them, this allows you to pay your rent to the city and your landlord doesn't get it until all your complaints are taken care of. Also if you are in college you can use the university legal system for help.

get out! Toxic mold is awful, awful, awful. Do not live in that building any longer than you absolutely need to. I can't stress this enough! Find a new place to rent.... NOW! Your landlord sucks, and his building is poisoning you... and you're paying for the privilege!

Contact your city authorities. This is a clear code violation because it endangers your health. This is dangerous stuff. You could die. If he won't fix it, sue him. Get a lwayer. You have a case, but keep a paper trail...write to him and demand it be fixed.

i say dont give him rent for two months, and after those two months, simply move out. he wont get his cash and you saved up sum to do a down payment on a house you can buy.
