Its a brand new Carrier system, and I'm a new home owner. The air conditioner rocked on all summer long, and last night, I turned to electric thermostat over to heat for the very first time...and nothing happened. Is there something that I should turn on first? Honest, I'm not blonde, however, I may be a goober!

Sounds like you have a problem. I would contact the installer or Carrier. Whoever your warranty is with. They should fix it for no charge. They might even be able to tell you over the phone a fix it yourself solution. This exact thing with exact brand unit happened to my mother. It was a wiring problem in the thermostat and wasn't recognizing the heat setting. Good Luck

turn on the heat and wait. go down to the furnace and listen to it sometimes it takes a few minitues to start up. also see if you can see a piliot light and make sure gas is on. if not sure call someone and ask questions. better to be a goober on the phone or a warm goober than a cold one. the system should have been checked out when they did the install but they still might have messed something up or the gas could have been turned off. most likely the new system will have electric gas start so no piliot light. make sure it has the power for the furnace turned on too

You might have turned it to HEAT, but in order for it to run, the setting needs to be higher than the room termperature. In other words, if the room temp is 70 and you've set it to 60, the heat won't turn on until the room reaches 60. Set it to a few degrees higher than the room temp and see what happens.

ok, if its a gas unit make sure u have gas......make sure the pilot is working......make sure the gas valve is open.....then set the temp to where u would like room to be...

if electric...flip switch to heat.....then push the arrow button up to the desired temp setting u want the room to be.....if it has a slide bar on the top and no down arrow button just slide it to the temp u want.......

if as you say its a new home then ask the builder to call in and show how to operate it, failing that phone the company who manufactured the item
