I'm curious if I were to purchase a phone from an online auction would I be able to get my current cell provider (Verizon) to cancel my current phone and activate the newly purchased phone? What are the limitations? I've heard that cell providers will not let you activate a phone unless it's purchased through them, is this true?

if the phone came off of the verizon network or was originally programed for the verizon network then they should be able to do it. If it came off the cingular/us cellular/alltel network and such they won't have the programing codes to put your phone number onto your new blackberry plus you won't get the best coverage since it doesn't have the provider's specific software in the phone, if you're not in contract anymore the easiest way is to just buy one from them (probably cheaper too)

Its very easy blackberry works with verizon services no matter what there is no need to call and check in, all that you need to do call Verizon Wireless Tech. Support *you can find the number on their website* and they will walk you through activating you phone step by step, its that simple and easy.

Check with the person who is selling it and see if you can get the activation and service when you buy it. Also call your current service provider
