Nowadays, a service call that costs less than $100 is a rarity. Actually a house call @ $60/hr is a bargain when you consider that auto dealers charge $80/hr to repair your car - and they won't come to your house to do the job. Heating conteractors have had to raise their prices , or charge a mileage charge, because of the increase in gasoline costs. Most furnace repairs are less than 1.5 hrs. per call.

Varies from city to city, but one thing you might want to do is ask your friends and family if they can refer you to someone who is cheap and reliable. Stay away from big name companies as they will charge just because they are ?????. Example: I always used Rotor Rooter to clean my drains and found out later that I was paying about 40.00 too much per visit. And how did I find this out? From a neighbor. The neighbor then gave me a number to a local guy who did the same thing for 40.00 less. So live and learn.

It is different in every area. There is the service charge, mileage and time spent at your place. You can count on close to $100 anyway in a major city.
