What is the deal with celebrities wanting to adopt?

When did it become the "in" thing to have an African American baby on your hip. I am an African American, it's not that I am bothered, I am glad that the kids are getting help but it seems that it is more a fad, to do it because someone else did. And what about the kids here in America that need help?
What is your opinion?

With ALL of their money (especially if combined), I would think the best help they could give children in poverty stricken countries is to build orphanages & provide services to assist the communities to become safer & more subsistent on their own in the future. Taking one baby does no good to help a so-called "cause". The only "awareness" that is being seen is that of the celebrity, themselves. Why would they wish to expose any child to being under a microscope for the rest of their lives? This seems like a new form of politically correct child abuse & exploitation!

I have always wondered that. People on those paid programs talk about sending money to other countries for feed the children or whatever. But, what about American children? anyway, to answer your question about celebrities that want to adopt, I think they hear of other celebrities doing things and then they want to do them and the other reason is for publicity. because, why do they have to let the world know or show off the child. I know its hard for celebrities to do things quietly, but it seems they try to be out in the public eye. Like, see what I did? I adopt a baby from another country. I helped out the father or I gave a million dollars to this charitable organization. Alright already! Other Americans adopt or give to charities or foster children and we don't get recognized for our good deeds, not like a celebrity.

I do agree with everyone else that this is about publicity.
Maybe Jolie did care because she was the ambassor to Cambodia and she did found a charity organization near the village where Maddox was born. But Madonna and other celebs just want their faces plastered on the mags.

It's ridiculous to see these rich people come into a 3rd world country with their body guards and stay at resorts BUT then visits the orphanages...Do they do that to boost their egos? Seriously, if they want to make a difference - go on a mission, do something with all that money they have. Honestly, these movie stars, musicians, socialites are regular people. Why do they media treat them like they are GOD-like? What have they done to improve the world?

Well sense Madonna adopted her baby some other stars have said there comments about that ,and every celebrity that has adopted children has tried to adopt in us but it's alot harder and the parents can always see them are even have a certain amount of time to get them back...*

I think it started out for the good. However, it just seems as though it is the chic thing to do. In my opinion, it seems to be a way to jump on the band wagon and get publicity. With all the nannies the stars have is not like they do a whole lot anyways.

Madonna maybe found out the lifestyle of the boy's family. At the same the system of living mostly in Africa is really marginalized compared to some countries. Therefore, lots of children suffer and families as well. Now, Madonna have this heart to extend her heart by helping or adopting this boy for the welfare of his family or for the sake of his future. It is just happen that Madonna has this fame taht every her move could be monitored by media that's why everything was put into public and Madonna doesn't have any plan as I guess just to put this into propaganda or to make some noise just to gain fame.
It is one of the best things to help poor people because you have the wealth just like Madonna.
Now she chose African boy.....because Africa is one of the poorest countries all over the world. Can you compare America to Africa in terms of Economy or wealth?

its great that celebrities want to adopt because there are many children who need families...alotta the celebrities who do charity work are the ones adopting children...in america many kids do need help but also in america the government and people around these kids try to help them...in africa many people are too poor to help themselves let alone other people

Does it matter? Are you going to give these kids a home? Most of these children would die of starvation or disease if they were left in the orphanages they were found in. Until regular people get involved, I think it's hypocritical to rag on people ( famous or otherwise), who do.
