Bugs Bunny's origin was as a goofy antagonist for Porky Pig in the Warner Bros. cartoon Porky's Hare Hunt (1938), directed by Cal Dalton and Ben "Bugs" Hardaway.

I always wondered the same thing. It could be perhaps because he "Bugs" Elmer Fudd so much. But why is Daffy Duck called Daffy? It's just one of those things that you just have to enjoy. But happy to see I'm not the only one who has thought that same question. :)

Well my guess is that it's because he ''bugs'' other characters, and that it was a term for crazy or deranged. And we all know that Mr. bunny is a bit nuts.
And daffy was named daffy because it means crazy too, sort of.

He was given the name "Bugs" by the Termite Terrace animators in honor of his creator, Ben "Bugs" Hardaway. "Bugs" or "Bugsy" as a name also fit the Bunny's early characterization, as it was popular vernacular for "crazy".
