i work in a factory with no heating and last year it was freezing, what are my rights, at what point can i say enough is enough, can i refuse to work, will i still get payed or will i be penalised

law stats you must have a room with the temp a min 16 degrees
where you must be intitled to warm yourself suficently for up to 15 minutes every hour.factorys act 1974.

offices its 60 degrees farentheit. factories, 57-58 degrees... cold you dont know what cold is... my old boss a scot called machlachlan wouldnt install any heating in the workshops... back in the 80's (1980's cheeky) it was regularly MINUS 5 degrees in th winter... yeah, i could have gone home, but he wouldnt have paid me... (i did and he didnt)

he said, theres the door, go get another job ifn ye can... i put up with it for 6 years... thank god for global warming...

16 degrees is the legal minimum. but this does not mean that you can go home and get paid if it is lower it means that the company should supply warm clothing or hot drinks etc. if its cold just work faster. follw the link for further info

Get in contact with your state's labor board. They enforce the treatment of employees in every job. They can tell you what your rights are.
