I'm interested in comparing hard drives. Which SATA hard drive on the market today is the best value, in your opinion? There are so many models available today that it's hard to know which one to purchase.

I like Western Digital. Newegg.com has some informative reviews and good deals.

I'd take a look at buying a 1TB instead of a 500G. The price increase is minimal considering you get a 100% bump in capacity. Or better still a 1.5 TB, you can always use more storage! Avoiding WD and Seagate is hard because the two control over 70% of the market.

It's better to just buy what you can for the price. Try to stick to a major manufacturer as you normally get better service. I go with low price myself, but others swear by higher cost=higher quality.

I feel brand doesn't matter. They all have high quaility standards. I would go for the cheapest or a well known brand on sale, with the most storagage.
