"Brown" is usually achieved by mixing colors that are "complimentary" to one another
orange and blue
red and green
yellow and violet
Then lighten or darken the brown with black or white.

Paint-wise, brown is a mixture of red, blue, and yellow. Depending on the amount of each color put into the mixture, the brown may be warmer or colder. Using Photoshop of some other computer imaging software, brown is a dark yellow.

Either a mix of the primary colors (red, blue, yellow) or a mix of the secondary colors (green, purple, and orange). Any other combinations will be gray, not brown. :)

Alizarin Crimson and Sap green mixed in equal proportions make an excellent Brown. You can make the Brown on the Green side or Red side if you want try it and experiment
