I want to get a laptop and i do not know which brand is the best. I have heard dell is good. Also Hp. I basically get on Bebo (Myspace type site) and check my mail. I don't play Pc games much. I don't do the complicated programs like the Photo Programs. I am constantly Mail-ing and Im-ing my friends and i mainly need a Laptop for that. $800.00 would be the limit. Where can i find the best for the limited price?

TigerDirect has the best prices, don't worry so much about the brand as that has little to do with the quality. What matters is the processer and memory. If you find a laptop for 700-800 dollars at TIgerDirect, you will be getting a decent one.

I recommend dell. I'm going to get trounced for this by some but here it goes anyway. I would go to http://www.dellauction.com and get a reconditioned one. I got mine for $300 and came with a waranty. It may be a two year old model, but to be honest, the last two years have been pretty stagnant as far as new and faster models. The only thing that significantly changed in the last 2 years are the graphic cards. Mine came with the ATI mobil radeon with 16 megs, the processor is a gigahertz, so it runs a fair amount of the games i do through at it.
What you don't get at dellauction though is a copy of windows, the hard drives are wiped clean in most cases, but that's only an extra hundred bucks. That's where I'd go, you can get a nice machine for less than $500 nd use the other 300 for a nice digital camera or something.

HI! First of all let me cut to the chase and recommend Dell. Since you do not play games it seems that try getting the Latitude D-Series. If you could try getting the D420 series. It's very light and has all the components needed and also it can be used for the office because of the Windows XP Pro OS. But also check out the Dimension series it's for home use it has the Windows XP Home OS and not recommended for the office. You may get these models at any PC shops mentioned by the other messages. Good luck.

IF you are in the U.S. go to salescircular.com and pick your state you live in.
Print out the laptop specials in your state.
Do some comparisions on hardware.
Get the reviews on the laptops at cnet.com
Remember battery runtime, wi-fi and screen size.
CPU, memory, dedicated graphics, doesn't seem like an issue to you.
