for a Ninja right now. My bf says he doesn't want me to get hurt, so he wants me to get a Scooty. I DON'T WANT A SCOOTY! I want a BIKE. I use to ride my ex-bf's KTM450EX, although it was an off rode bike 85% of the time. How can I explain to him, that I can ride a bike. He has never saw me ride. I have been riding for like 3 years.

Thanks!

A background in offroad riding is very good, because it gives you confidence in how a bike handles when the tires are sliding.

However, in the dirt you tend to ride EXPECTING to slide around, and on a street bike there is a very fine line between grip and slip, and immediately past it you could be sliding your BUTT on the asphalt instead.

I don't think you need a scooter either, but stay away from any Ninja supersport bike. Try the new 650R instead, as it has a more upright riding position that you would be familiar with and a lower seat height than most pure sportbikes.

I think it looks freakin' cool, too!

I just got my Ninja ZX-6R a couple of weeks ago. It's awesome! It's a decent bike to start with because it's got a good amount of power and will definitely pick up on the speed, but it's not huge like the 10R or 14R. I'm 5'6" so it was a little tall for me but I was able to get it lowered to a comfortable level.

If you want to get your bf to drop the nagging, look up a motorcycle safety course in your area and take it! I would recommend the course one way or the other because it provides a ton of good info. In some areas, it will help to drop your insurance rates too! Also, a new law is going into affect in some areas that will require all new bike registers to have proof that a safety course was taken. The Saftey Course will have you do the driving test at the end of the weekend so all you have to do is take your certificate of completion to the DMV and they'll hand over your new license. So all-in-all, you're better off by doing the course. My husband was a lot happier when I decided to take the course, so I know what you're dealing with!

what is the question?

1) Look for a new bf!

2) Look for a Kawi EX250 or 500, they're a good place to start. They're cheap, low powered, and low seat height if you're short. i'f you're taller and want more power, look at some older CBR600's like F3's or F4's or maybe even F4i's depending on how much you're looking to spend?

3) Start dating a guy who rides. Motorcycling is a way of life, and if you're with someone who doesn't agree with it, there's always going to be strife and turmoil. If you're with someone who shares the same passion as you, it strengthens the relationship.

Tell him to keep his mouth shut, that you know how to ride.

Buy the Ninja 250R. It's the perfect size and go's fast enough to ride with the big bikes. They are cheap in price but well made.

Here's a link to a review on this bike you should read, real good photo's also.

Does your boyfriend know that the laws of physics do not change when you ride a scooter? A 50mph crash on a scooter or a 50mph crash on a Yamaha R6 are both going to cause the same level of injury. What matters is that you receive proper training and wear proper gear, whatever you decide to ride.

Sport bikes are to uncomfortable on a long trip, i used to have a Yamaha XJR1300. Cheap on insurance, very quick and easily gets up on one wheel (not recommended) and it is an excellent riding position. Sports bikes are only for show that's my honest opinion, (you can't get the most out of them on a suburban street) unless your taking it on to a track don't bother, if you don't agree go the Suzuki GSXR750

EXPLAIN TO HIM THAT A SCOOTER HAS POOR BRAKES, SMALL WHEELS THAT PROMOTE POOR HANDLING, AND INADEQUATE SUSPENSION TO HANDLE BAD ROADS.

IF YOUR RIDING ABILITY IS COINCEDENT WITH THE BIKES PERFORMANCE, YOU WILL BE SAFER ON A REAL GOOD MOTORCYCLE THAN A SCOOTER
