I didn't think the skin color of the President mattered. I guess to some, it does.

No one knows for sure. Colin Powell could certainly be a front-runner for the office. I'm hoping the time will come when presidents don't have to necessarily be white males over 50. Kennedy broke the mold when they elected a Catholic president, and Liberman could have been the first Jewish president. A woman almost made it one time in the Republican party. So it's not a given that a president has to be a WASP. We'll just have to wait and see, although I don't expect it to happen any time soon.

It took the United States almost 200 years to have a Catholic president (Kennedy), and he was assassinated, so it will probably be another century before we have an African American one.

To the first answer - of course it matters.
Anyone who thinks racism doesn't exist in almost every facet of society is very sadly mistaken.
I can't see it happening while the white upper class families that control all the big corporations wield the power in the US...you know I'm right - how'd ya think GWB got into politics? For his great intellect and leadership skills? No, you all know it was through hard, filthy cash. And he's not the only one, by a very long way....

The answer above mine proves my point about racism.

I guess as long as it takes to find a good one...one that deserves to be there...and one the people like! I think skin colour is irrelevant and hopefully the people of America realise that having one would be disastrous, because black people do tend to wander about with chip's on their shoulder's, and if they were given any type of authority, I'd be scared to think what might happen! A black police officer is the most jumped up type of person you could ever wish to meet...can you imagine what a black president would be like!!

Happy waiting.

I would hope that all presidents are Americans, no hyphens. Skin color should have nothing to do with it. If someone manages to convince Condi to run in 2008, she's got my vote.

Whenever we get one who is qualified.. We have had two , who tried so far, but they were not very good candidates. Color of skin, plays no part whatsoever, who will be elected President..

Are you planting the notion? You make it sound like the ultimate achievement. Please settle for the person who can do the job best. Otherwise, it is reverse racism.
