You are not allowed to do that, but if you want to:

1. Snip the security tag.

2. Remove the ring it was securing.

3. Pull the meter straight out.

Now the power will be off at your panel.

Be careful about the opening you have created on the meter base - the wires coming from the street are ALIVE.

When you reconnect the meter make sure the MAIN DISCONNECT for your panel is OFF!!! If you don't have a main disconnect turn OFF ALL breakers (or remove ALL fuses).

If you have created a short while doing the work in your house - the meter can BLOW UP when you put it back in!!

Now put the ring back around the meter and put the security tag back on. If you snipped it nicely, you can make it look like you never cut it.

You simply pull them straight out of the meter socket. This will also disconnect your power. You must notify your power supply company before you do it. There is a seal that must be broken off before it can be pulled out. This seal is to ensure your dont bypass the meter for free power. Keep in mind that the incoming contacts inside the meter socket are hot (Deadly without circuit breakers to protect you).

Ummm you do realize there is live voltage inside the meter? that usually is in homes around 220 volts? that being said simply clip wire remove outer ring, and twist or pull meter out as if you would a plug in your home
