With the Democrats moving to the liberal agenda and the Republicans moving further and further to the right wing, that leaves a yawning gap in the centre. A new centrist party could attract right wing Dems like Lieberman, and left leaning Republicans such as Guliani. On the whole it would be good for USA democracy. What do you think?

It would be nice. I am tired of voting for the lesser of two evils.

Yes, but it will take commitment and solid candidates.

The Reform party got 19% of the vote the first time around and got a governor in Minnesota.

Since then, the candidates have been more on the fringe and not as viable.

I believe it would be great for the country because it might bring us a socially liberal and fiscally conservative party which is where a significant portion of the country is.

By splitting the popular platform between the two parties, we get petty arguing and inactivity. Having a party that represents what a lot of people want hopefully would lead to reform and action.

At last, someone who echos my sentiment.
I remember the days of 1960s. No I was not old enough to vote but I could tell somethings about politics. Using war as my example, during that era a lot of democrates were supportive of most armed conflicts. My father was a Democrat, and a minister, he also was in WWII. My point is at that time most politician's understood that there had to be balance and negotiation on both sides of the line. Now days I feel that we have to pick sides and settle for someone not so left or right of my centrist point of view.
Nothing tree hugging, nothing green, nothing getting in the way of good honest research for stem cells, nothing focused on fear and retaliation, just good honest debate and forward thinking ideas. Strong defense in the face of terror but not a world police force. Now if we can only find someone to fit that bill.

Though a lot of Americans are fed up with both parties, it probably won't be the time for a strong third party. The kind of political party that you described (A new centrist party that could attract right wing Dems...) would be a kind of political party I could see myself becoming a member of. Besides, aren't a lot of Americans at least somewhere near the center (or at least statistically, they should.)?

My opinion is that until now we are able to have a likely 0.33 social gathering that we first ought to do away with the electoral college. the way issues are set up now it would be too hassle-free for a 0.33 social gathering to cut up the electoral votes and trow the election into the domicile of representatives. in case you think of that issues have been messy in Florida in 2000 wait until we've a divided domicile attempting to return to a sort an election. relatively, i think of, we'd ought to remodel that area of the form that governs presidential elections. as an occasion what if there are extra desirable than 3 applicants? we could finally end up with a president who gained heavily decrease than 50% of the vote. might we ought to function a provision allowing runoff elections, ought to no candidate attain a predetermined threhshold?

Not just one more party, several more. I used to call myself a democrat because they tended to reflect my views. That is, until I realized that they are just as bad as republicans. Unless a centrist party surfaces, America is screwed.
