What you are asking is: Is it dumb to get the job?

No it isn't dumb to get a job which requires no degree. Especially if you don't have a degree. If you have a degree, it might not be the best job you could get, but it still really isn't dumb. It might be the job you really want.

It depends on what job you are talking about. No degree is required to be President of the USA nor to be a USA Congressman. Both are highly sought after jobs although the pay is not that good compared to what lawyers or Doctors make.

My first job right out of college was digging ditches at a construction project. It was not a dumb decision at all. Back in 1964 we had the "draft" and no one would hire a male with a degree knowing he was soon to be drafted into the Army.

Your question is rather ambigious so I don't know your heart. But I am thinking you have touched on a very serious problem we have in this country and that is a near total lack of work ethic. Back in 1964 no thought it was dumb for me to be doing manual labor at minimum wage even though I had a degree. Rather it was expected that other wise healthy people would work. Even the unskilled uneducated manual laborers with whom I worked admired me for the effort. But it is not that way any longer.

A lot of jobs that don't require a degree are very important. So no it is not dumb. I think jobs that don't require a degree are needed in a lot of cases. People who need a job that don't have a degree can get one. These jobs are the jobs that America depends on so there is less poverty.

Certainly not every job requires a degree. As long as its honest work and pays enough to support someone, what's dumb about it? If a person wants a profession, then he has to study for a degree. But even a degree does not always guarantee placement in the chosen profession. Many people who have a college degree can attest to that.

I think the question is, will people look down on you for getting a job that doesn't require a degree. Remember that owning your own business, truly the backbone of American industry, doesn't require any special training.
