It's not very difficult at all if you are willing to start out as part time employee available to work flexible hours carrying mail. It's much harder to get an inside job, although the USPS is currently hiring for Christmas help at the plants.
Your first step is to talk with your local postmaster and/or go to USPS.com and look under employment opportunities.

There are jobs posted on the USPS website. There are also some posted on the USAJOBS.COM website. Many cities have rural carrier positions available as a sub starting at $17/hr & may require you to provide your own right hand vehicle. (Look for them for sale at the postal union websites.) Larger cities have city carriers which is a different union. You can bid jobs all around the city where rural carriers stay put in that post office. Clerk positions are good if you enjoy multi-tasking. The postal exams usually require a score of 70 or higher. It is best to pick up a book at your local library that gives examples of types of questions on the test and alot of good helps. The USPS will pick from the highest scores and work downward. You may be able to take the test more than once. TE positions are temporary, in other words they work you for around 100 days, lay you off for 5, then hire you back. Not a good deal if you want benefits, good pay & security. Carrier positions require a good driving record. They all require the drug test, background check limited to your local area & fingerprinting. As a clerk or carrier you have to work your way up from PTF (part time flexible) to regular. Warning PTF usually means overtime - not part time. You can usually become a regular much quicker as a carrier, especially a city carrier. The medical benefits aren't as cheap as they used to be, but you can still opt for free basic life insurance. There is also a no layoff clause after I believe 6 years. You can take a look at the retirement system called FERS by going to TSP.gov This is a good time to seek employment as there was a hiring freeze for about 5 years. Best of Luck. Oh, also if you ever decide to move to another state you can set up a mutual swap with another employee.

They fee a buttload for it too. a million: The examination aint that complicated. 2: The job sucks. I took the examination and have been given a job at USPS. I somewhat have achieved a lot of issues: military for 10 years, handy shop. Employment secure practices, Bus Boy, and so on. The positioned up place of work grew to become into the worst job ever. they do no longer care approximately you, manage you like junk, andchronic their hard paintings with threats and concern. working in a union like their's is terrible in case you have any quantity of paintings ethic. people gets a commission greater useful in the event that they locate the thank you to get around the equipment and paintings much less. stay away my buddy. the money and reward are great, yet are not woth the undesirable paintings envirponment.

Go to their website. They have a form to submit with your address and they will send you something to study and contact you when they are testing in your area.
