It depends on what music you are going for. Music Ed., Audio Recording/ Music Technology, Theory/Composition, and History should generally take 4 years.
I have a degree in Music Audio Recording and I completed it in 4 years.
Also know for music education it could take longer because of the number of classes that you need to take. It can also depend on your Praxis scores. Some schools do not allow you to take some of the Music Education classes unless you have passed your praxis.
The best way to decide if a music degree is for you, I'd recommend researching the school that you would like to go to, and schedule a visit with that school. That way you can talk to the head of the music department and other faculty there. Also I'd talk to some of the music students there as well. Ask them questions, like: How many years have you been here/ Are you on a 4 year plan?, Has there been anything that delayed you in your anticipated graduation? Is the program what you expected?/Not expected?, How can I prepare for being a music major?
Good luck with your search and your degree pursuit.

a bachelors is four and an associates is 2. if youre looking for a music school for conducting, music education, or performance... I DEFINITELY SUGGEST BEYOND SUGGESTING that you apply to Stetson University. my friend who was a senior last year is a freshmen there now and the music school is very very very very good. Or try Appalachian State University, state school in Boone NC and also has an amazing music department, and it has a state of the art recording studio and more majors towards the music business and production feilds as well as conducting & music ed.

most bachelor degrees take 4 yrs. but in my opinion a bachelors in music isn't going to get you very far. you might want to consider a masters and even a phd.
