Does anyone elses doc want to get your cholestrol down to 50?

Studies demonstrate that getting your LDL (low density lipoprotien) aka the "bad" cholesterol as low as 25 will show continued benefits in terms of reducing and even reversing arterial plaques. This is not, however, currently a recommended guideline - yet.

If you have known coronary heart disease (especially recurrent disease) then it may be appropriate to have a goal for LDL to be that low. If you do not have known heart disease then having a goal that low is probably overly aggressive and the risks of taking the medication probably outweigh the benefits gained.
