Whenever I got a sore throat, my mother always made me gargle with salt water and then drink teas with honey. For some off reason it works, although it takes a while.
Best bet? Try not to talk much, gargle now and then and have alot of cough drops if you really need to talk. Its really mportant not to stress your voice more then it needs to.
If you really are worried, calling a doctor is a safe bet.

If it is just a sore throat or a cold, it can go away on its; own. Advil for the pain and any swelling. Hot tea to soothe your throat.
if it is something worse, like Strep Throat - it WILL NOT GO AWAY ON ITS OWN and can easily become very dangerous with a high fever and constricted throat in a few days. You could be very contagious and shouldn't go to work, and if you don't get treatment, you will be in bad shape soon enough.

Put 1/2 teaspoon salt in 1 cup warm water. Add a couple of shakes of red pepper (cayenne) and stir. Gargle with this several times daily, as needed. You can also suck on slippery elm lozenges (Traditional Medicinals sells them under the name "Throat Coat"). There is also a tea which also goes by the name "Throat coat" which is wonderully soothing.

Yup. All the famous singers use this one (Elton John loves it). Use the juice of half a lemon, and A LOT of honey in a tea cup. Mix with hot water. Voila! Presto! Instant remedy in a cup. Drink several a day. Your throat will fell much better. Tastes good too.

My mom always had us gargle with salt water - it worked if you could keep from puking. Something about the salt drawing the infection out therefore reducing the swelling. You should see a dr though, it sounds like you need antibiotics.
