Proud to be White
Someone finally said it. How many are actually paying attention to
this?
There are African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian
Americans, Arab Americans, Native Americans, etc. and then there are
just Americans.
You pass me on the street and sneer in my direction. You
call me "White boy," "Cracker," "Honkey," "Whitey,"
"Caveman" and that's OK.
But when I call you, ******, Kike, Towelhead, Sand-******, camel
Jockey, Beaner, ****, or Chink you call me a racist.
You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you,
so why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live?
You have the United ***** College Fund.
You have Martin Luther King Day.
You have Black History Month.
You have Cesar Chavez Day.
You have Yom Hashoah
You have Ma'uled Al-Nabi
You have the NAACP.
You have BET.
If we had WET(White Entertainment Television) we'd be racists.
If we had a White Pride Day you would call us racists.
If we had White History Month, we'd be racists.
If we had any organization for only whites to "advance"
our lives, we'd be racists.
We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a Black Chamber of
Commerce, and then we just have the plain Chamber of Commerce.
Wonder who pays for that?
If we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships,
you know we'd be racists. There are over 60 openly proclaimed Black
Colleges
in the US, yet if there were "White colleges"
that would be a racist college.
In the Million Man March, you believed that you were
marching for your race and rights. If we marched for our race and
rights, you would call us racists.
You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and
you're not afraid to announce it. But when we announce our white
pride,
you call us racists.
You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us. But, when a white police
officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black
drug-dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society, you
call him a racist.
I am proud. But, you call me a racist.
Why is it that only whites can be racists?

Seeing as how you decided to use Yahoo Answers as a forum, allow me a moment to retort.
It seems that you are a bit confused....and I understand; you feel passionately about your point of view. I hope that you know that the people you've described here I'm sure can counter every single proclamation you've made, but will it help foster and facilitate a conversation that helps us all learn to understand each other?
Will it help you to see and appreciate the many differences between our cultures that make us all ultimately the part of ONE HUMAN RACE?
I hope so. I don't feel that only whites can be racists. That would be like saying that only white people are rich or educated. Its a blanket statement and its fear and ignorance that divides us.
At our core, we are all the same. We want to be safe and happy and live in a safe , thriving environment and wants the best for our families, friends, and loved ones.
I appreciate you putting this question out here after all. Hopefully it would foster a conversation- the first step in understanding each other.

"White" is a funny thing. When the Irish first arrived in this country, when the Italians first came, the Greeks, the Poles, etc., each group was subjected to prejudice and bigotry. But as the second and third generations of these groups assimilated into mainstream American culture, they ceased to be proud of individual European ancestry and became "white".
People of color can't do that. They cannot ever entirely assimilate into the mainstream American culture by virute of skin tone. I believe this is what creates the dissonance you feel.
However, being part of the majority culture (or even just the largest minority in a plurality) means that most TV is already WET and we don't need a special outlet to feel represented. Most scholarship funds are already going to us, and so we don't need special set asides to gain footholds. And I could go on through the rest of your list.
I do agree that word "racist" is thrown about too freely, and that prejudice and bigotry human qualities, not exclusive to any one group. Racism was a psuedo-scientific belief that caucasians were innately superior to all the other races. This belief was fed by European technical superiority throughout the 16th - 19th centuries.
I think, over the course of the 20th century, that belief was debunked and disproved. No one but insecure people on the lunatic fringe believes there is something genetically "superior" about any given "race". There is really only one race, the human race. That we break ourselves up into groups and are mean to those of "other" groups is not racism, just rank bigotry.
Still, if you are proud of your own heritage, why begrudge others the expressions of their own pride?

I know exactly what you mean. I am proud to be white and I am not Racist. Just like I am proud to be an American and a Baptist and I am proud to be a woman and I am not sexist. I don't condemn anyone for their race, culture, beliefs or religion. Even though their are a lot of racist people out there, they are mostly from the south or from another era. In my opinion, the most racist people are 1) Indians 2) blacks and 3) whites. I am not trying to offend anyone, but this is what I have noticed living in my town and state. And, my husband is an Indian man and he said Indians are number one on the list and he should know.

No, it wouldn't be racist because racism = being against a whole race or thinking a whole race is genetically inferior If you are a Frenchman tho you should be wearing a white and black stripped shirt and a beret while sucking on a cigarette going "OUI OUI, huh huh"

First of all, this isnt a question. This is something that people keep copying and pasting here. I have seen this EXACT SAME THING posted many times by other people. So stop thinking this person came up with it all on his own, because he didn't.
Second, no matter your skin color, you can be racist. White, black, yellow, pink, purple with orange polka dots; it doesn't matter. All humans are capable of feeling hatred towards another; the color of your skin doesn't make you a racist.

I really get a kick out of reading the responses to these types of questions.
It always amazes me that people refer to racists as Hillbillies from the South. Funny thing is that the prominent city in the South is Atlanta - Atlanta is the Black Meca of the South.
Yes, there are a lot of racists in the South!

Hypocrisy! It provides for those people to feel better about their situation instead of actually doing something for themselves.
With each victim and minority, there's a government program for them. Certain politicans and political parties will guarantee that continues.
The flaws of democracy can be summed up in Alexis De Tocqueville’s argument that a democracy (and a country) can last only until the citizens realize they can vote themselves money from the treasury. The political party that supports those people by promising 'money from the treasury' is the party to avoid. The people that need for this racism to exist are those that would rather receive money from the treasury than earn it themselves. Just as each person should ask themselves when buying something, "is it a need or a want?". The same should be asked in their role in society, "am I a taker or a giver?"

Other races are racist as well...but as whites we put up with it because....well, I don't know why, but we do...I guess it's because whites have more inherent priveleges than others...it's complicated. Race is a stupid concept and not at all based on biology...being racist is a waste of time and energy. I just don't bother worrying about race...

I agreed with your original question, but when you start with the name-calling, your racism comes out. I am white. My father was an Archie Bunker type, but my mother was a Christian in the true sense of the word, so I was raised right in spite of his attitudes. I grew up in a mixed, working class neighborhood, so I had friends of all races. (Still do) When they took the last census, I insisted on listing my ethnic origin as German-American instead of white, because white is not an ethnic origin. They have categories for different hispanic origins, so why not whites? I have been on the receiving end of racism from blacks, but as you said if a white peson says something, it's racism. So, I understand where you're coming from, but you need to see the whole picture. I've been discriminated against by men because I was a woman in a man's job, but I don't hate all men because of it. Think about it, OK?
