My mom spanked my bare butt because I came home late from school yesterday. I was with my friend at her house and didn't call her. Now I don't know what to do I am in 7th grade and embarassed. What should I do? Should I report her?

Im from the UK & dont know how old you must be to be in 7th grade, but you obviously consider yourself too old to be punished in such a way.

I dont think any form of violence should be used against a child & i certainly dont think its necessary or the parents automatic right to select a punishment like that. I have worked with children for years & KNOW that there are many other ways to promote better behaviour & in-force discipline. Heck, i would have been out of a job years ago if i couldnt control children using appropriate measures. I can only imagine that your mother did this because of the worry you gave her by not being home on time or calling - we all do crazy things when we are emotional... If you have started puberty i am even more shocked over this as you said she spanked your actual bare butt.

However, i dont think you should report your mother - you obviously arent harmed & it seems you are more embarrassed than anything else. I would talk to her, remind her that you are ?? age & that you dont feel its right for her to spank your bare skin on such an area of your body. If she refuses & does this again then you have a decision to make - either report her, which to be honest will cause a lot of hassle, or pretend like you dont care so that she realises this form of punishment isnt gonna work.

Most of all i hope that you stick to her rules & let her know where you are & come in on time. A parent will imagine all sorts of terrible things & while you are having fun they are literally going through hell wondering if you are ok or not & her worry will turn to hurt & anger that you are causing this when it needn't happen - that is something you cant possibly begin to understand & there is not point in tellign her not to worry... Not just that, but there are practical matters too, what if an emergency came up & she had a fall & had to go to hospital etc but didnt know where to locate you?

Perhaps you should ask for a phone for christmas...

I feel bad 4 u even tho u did deserve be in trouble!! I am in 7 grade 2 and ive gotten spanking like that from my mother this year 2 times but it because i mess up at school. it not fun but u mother prolly worry for you and you should know 2 call her not come home after school. I know it hurt 2 be spanked but if u report her she just get more upset wit u. so dont do that just call her next time and she not spank you and if i did what same thing you do i would have sore bottom so not alone.

Report her for what? She did nothing wrong. Spanking is legal. Beating is not. Next time get home on time or call.

You can't "report her." She's your parent and has every right to punish you. Especially when you don't come home on time and all the kids of all ages that are getting abducted. The police would laugh at you, and if I were your mom, I'd spank you again.

My mom paddled my brothers and my bare butt til 15/16--We had it vcoming--and it was just a part of life---I know this was 40 yrs ago---but i would not think 7th grade was too old for a paddling from your mom---Your momk seeing and spanking a 12 yr old butt is not a big deal---but if it is a really tramatic thing could your dad do it or an uncle? or just behave---I guess

By the way you write I would tend to believe you are fairly intelligent. So, your mom spanked you, because you didn't call her. Was it a rule that she has, that you broke, and you knew you were breaking by not doing it? Why are you embarrassed? They she do it in front of someone?

Parent's set rules, because kids, especially teenagers, in all their wisdom (pun intended), think they know all, and sadly till you get older, you don't realize how little you really know.

I was 19 years old, in the US Army, married with a 1 year old son, and I made the mistake of doing something stupid in front on my momma. Apologize to her for not calling. She was probably worried about you.
Can you talk to her about how the spanking made you feel? Can you ask that if she feels the need to discipline you that she does it in private?
