Money alone does not make any one rich. The ability to be happy with yourself - to work or not work if you want, and to love your fellow man and be loved back are important here too. My mother gave me 18 million when she died and that is OK but I made a lot on stocks and sold my internet company at 42 and retired so now the accountant tells me I am worth about 130 million. I really don't feel rich as I am depressed two out of every 7 days. I do like shopping without restraint though.

Being rich is a state of mind rather than cash in the bank, you can be rich with many hard assets such as Real estate and low cash assets, you could have millions in the stock market and be paper rich. Many rich people are asset rich and cash poor. So they will sometimes sell an asset to release some needy cash, but still be rich even then.

It depends on the person being the judge. I consider anyone with over a £1m in the bank rich.

i would consider myself rich if having payed the bills, the rent and put a reasonable amount of savings away, and still had money left over to go out three times a week. (meals, bowling, cinema etc...)

I would say being "rich" is able to do the things you want to do, when you want to do them. Being rich for me, is retireing early and not sacrificing my "lifestyle" too much. Most people in America make less than $40,000/yr could easily live on 1mil and not change their lifestyle.

I think you are really rich when money means nothing to you, just like paper.

It's all relative...if you knew I owned 2 cars and 2 houses, and go on 4 or 5 holidays a year, would you think I was rich?
Oh dear, a thumbs down already...you don't even know if it's true or anything else about my situation...I was illustrating my point about it being relative, but I guess that was too complex for you.
